WOW
so this is kinda sad i mean class being over and all. not to excited about next semester. i mean my 2 favorite classes were sociology and political thought both of which are one semester classes. i think that i learned more real world lesions and observed more in sociology than almost any other class the only class even close to it would be economics with hann. but i love soc not only for the peopel in it but the lessons. that and what am i going to do with this blog now, i mean i guess i could keep blogging but i think the only person that might read this is Smith and I'm not sure if he will even bother with it. but if you do read this smith just want to say i loved the class i never would have guessed that you had not taught it in so long. i loved freaks and geeks I'm going to buy it i think and your class has changed the way that i look at people and some of the things that we do. i have begun to question why we do things and why we think the way we do. I'm going to miss that class it was sick. and if any one else does read this that was in the class what did you think about it? what was your favorite thing we did?

CRASH!!!!!
#1: The cop played by Matt Dillon showed that he was a racist but also showed that he would up hold his duty to protect people. comparing him to Cameron who was a director, you can see the differences in racism. Matt started the movie with racist feelings as Cameron did not, Cameron started to have racist feelings after he had racist acts done to him and his wife. both Matt and Cameron knew that Cameron could not stop Matt because he was a white cop and Cameron was a black man. that's why Cameron did not try to stop Matt from sexually touching Cameron's wife. and Finlay when push came to shove Matt for got about race and helped Cameron's wife get out of the car which saved her life. on the other hand Cameron got very very mad and and threatened cops to shoot him and got angry and almost brought out a gun on the cops.
#2:there were many many times in this movie where people where negatively stereotyped. one good example was when Daniel, the lock smith, was replacing the locks at the DA's house. and Daniel is Hispanic and some people might say that he looks like he could be in a gang, Jean the DA's wife starts yelling that the next day she wants the locks changed again because she believes that Daniel will take a key to the house and give it to his "gang banging friends" so they can break in to there house. i really like how Daniel deals with this he doesn't yell or argue back, no instead he finishes his work walks up to where Jean was and put down all 4 keys to the house. politely says good night and walks out the door. he showed her she was wrong and didn't do any thing to play into the stereotype. another example of stereotyping in the movie was done to Farhad, a man who is from the middle east and dose not speak very good english. he was purchasing a gun to protect himself and his store form being robbed. the man selling the gun did not want to sell Farhad the gun because he assumed that any middle eastern man was a terrorist and a Muslim which in his mind mad them all bad people. and as the mad selling the gun yelled racial slurs and stereotyped farhad all farhad did was yell back and escalate the problem, farhad played into it and gave the salesman a reason to not like middle eastern people.
#3: The TV producer Cameron said to Anthony in his car "you embarrass me; you embarrass yourself." what i believe Cameron is saying to Anthony is that Anthony is playing into all the stereotypes of blacks he walks like people think blacks do he talks like people think blacks do and he all around acts like people think blacks do. Cameron is saying that the way Anthony conducts himself is childish and needs to grow up and join society. i think this had a huge impact on Anthony because he stops making racist comments and stereotyping everyone and starts to help others like when he lets the Asians go in china town instead of selling them for money.
#4:When you look at a person and you see there whole race and not the individual it is because of ether the way they act, talk, or hold themselves in public. for example if you were to see a black man dressed in a suit or wearing a polo you would see the individual but if you saw a black man wearing baggy pants a big puffy jacket and large necklaces (bling) then you would see the whole race and NOT THE INDIVIDUALS because this man is dressing and carrying himself how people stereotype him. when people play into there stereotype you see the whole race and when you brake them or don't acknowledge them you become and individual. for example Anthony was looked at as a whole race because of stereotypes on the other hand Cameron was look at as an individual because he broke away from the stereotype.
#5:No it is not in our nature or genes to be racist it is some thing that we learn in society. you can see this because people have become less and less racist over time. racism is still around and i don't believe it will ever go away but i think that it is getting better and will continue to get better, which shows it is not in our genes.
#6:Race is learned from our environment and our surroundings. for example if you put a bunch of little children in a room with toys and there were a bunch of kids of different races they would play all the same as if the room had only one race of child. so it must be some thing we get from family friends and media. the racial messages we get from media at times i don't think are intentional, but they often portray violent crimes most of which seem to be done in inner cities that don't have a lot money and they happen to be black so people start to associate black people with crimes. while crimes still happen with whites most of them have the money to keep them quiet. and family may send messages with out knowing it. who the family hangs out with is a big part if a child is never around other races they may not like them as much.
#7: i wish it were possible to end racism but i believe it is not. i think this because though we are becoming less racist as a society some people will never change there ways which may teach there children to be the same way. and there are a lot of ignorant and stupid people who don't have common sense and cant think things through. i think that we can do better but it will never be 100% gone.
